Free Software Foundation claims OpenTV GPL violation

Things get to pretty pitch
Wed May 21 2003, 17:26
DAN GILLMOR at the Mercury News reports that the Free Software Foundation is claiming OpenTV has contravened the GPL.

The general public licence is free, but if companies or individuals use the software code, they're expected to put that code back into the public domain.

And, reports Gillmor, the FSF claims OpenTV have violated the GPL for a year, and is even threatening legal action.

According to OpenTV, there's been a misunderstanding and it wants to put the matter straight.

But if it's got as far as the threatening legal action stage, that must be quite some misunderstanding.

You can find the Gillmor column here. µ
