The general public licence is free, but if companies or individuals use the software code, they're expected to put that code back into the public domain.
And, reports Gillmor, the FSF claims OpenTV have violated the GPL for a year, and is even threatening legal action.
According to OpenTV, there's been a misunderstanding and it wants to put the matter straight.
But if it's got as far as the threatening legal action stage, that must be quite some misunderstanding.
