ST Micro and Intel in fab deal - report

Capacity rapacity
Sat Apr 07 2007, 16:29
AN ITALIAN SITE is reporting that ST Microelectronics and Intel will together work to tool up a 12-inch somewhat empty fab in Catania with a startup for M6 slated for the middle of 2008.

The site, here, suggests that a date for an announcement is expected between the 24th and the 26th of April, and a manager for the fab has already been decided.

There's speculation that the JV will be 47% owned by ST Micro, 43 per cent by Intel and 10 per cent by other investors.

You'd think that Intel would have enough fab capacity. But enough is never enough for the Mighty Chipzilla.
