EARLIER ON in the week, rumours were flying of a Dreamcast 2 and Sega's return to the world of hardware.
Unfortunately Sega has reiterated that the trademark renewal was just that - Sega is not returning to compete with Nintendo et al.
Wii/DS
After a month where the PS3 pwned the Wii, Nintendo has hit back. The
latest
sales data shows Nintendo once again in the lead.
This surge was mainly down to the release of Wii fit. Cheapassgamer has an unboxing video here.
Officials from Nintendo of Europe have revealed details of the full line-up of first and third party titles to be released in the first and second quarter of 2008. Gamasutra has the full list.
PS3/PSP
Don Eklund, EVP of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, has
promised
an update for the PS3 that will allow the player to support BD Profile 1.1
starting later this month. The update brings the PS3 up to the Final Standard
Profile and will give it features like Picture in Picture and an internal memory
of at least 256MB.
In a new interview Playstation director of network operations Eric Lempel has confirmed that Sony is working on making the PSN store available through the PSP handheld itself, rather than relying on a connection with the Playstation 3 or the recent PC version of the service.
Speaking to the MTV Multiplayer website, Lempel indicated that a version of the store on the PSP was certainly being considered.
If you don't have a PSP and are interesting in buying one, be careful if you're using Ebay.
If you're more interested in the PS3's Playstation Home service, there's 25 minutes of video here.
Xbox 360
After this hack just shelled out for a HD-DVD drive for his 360, to go alongside
his Blu-ray playing PS3, Gizmodo
reports
that the DVD and HD-DVD playback of the 360 'still sucks'.
Hollywood director Michael Bay doesn't think much of Microsoft's HD-DVD drive either.
Fortunately the Xvid/Divx playback is meant to be 'almost flawless'.
Joystiq has a video playback FAQ for you Xboxers wondering if you can play your favourite files.
Finally us in Blighty (and Europe) are expected to get the Xbox Video Marketplace, albeit in a limited fashion.
Unfortunately the fall update didn't include any IPTV features, rumoured a few weeks ago.
If you're wondering what Xbox classics to play on your Xbox 360, read no further than this Eurogamer piece. ยต
I have both Blu-Ray and an HD player for my 360. I can say from personal experience the picture quality produced through my 360 is very good (in some cases better, with regard to color banding) when compared to my Samsung Blu-Ray player. Needless to say I was a bit suprised by the comments...

Note the Update below, quoted from the review site for those that didn't actually read the whole article.

"Update: We spoke to an HD DVD professional, and he told us there were problems with this review. Apparently, the HQV discs are making players (even top of the line players) fail de-interlacing tests, which is pretty much all the disc does. What the reviewer should have done is test image quality, which would have made the Xbox 360 HD DVD player just about as good as the other standalone HD and BD players. The man we talked to didn't say much about DVD, however."

I see it and find it hard to believe but the Wii still sells out here at a local Best Buy in Southern California. Week in - Week out, for the past year.

It's like this console is falling into a massive consumer black hole.
I imagine what goes in will come out in two years en masse cheap at same consumer yard sales - name your price.
