Zander out at Moto

He didn't have an iPhone
Fri Nov 30 2007, 14:26

FORMER SUN MAN Ed Zander is out at Motorola after a
CEO reign that fell just shy of three years.

Zander was feted after early successes with the Razr
phone at the American icon but recent financials have
been horrible and Zander will depart the CEO role on
New Year’s Day when the rest of us are planning
resolutions and wishing the turkey stuffing had been
swerved. He will stay on as chairman until May.

A likeable New Yorker with no lack of chutzpah and
banter, Zander once formed a nice double act at Sun
with Scott McNealy. Presumably their conversations
were tricky with neither man able to get a word in
edgeways. At Moto, it seems that Zander paid the price
for not being able to compete with the Iphone and
BlackBerry, or reach Nokia-style volumes. µ
