Sir Viiv talks to PCs

IDF Spring 2006 Don MacDonald too british.com

WE ARE a little worried about Intel's Don MacDonald whom we labeled "Sir Viiv" last IDF. This time, the ever gentle manager tried to show how to program a TV recording on a Viiv device using no buttons on the remote control.

So, MacDonald first looked up the show saying "What time is "Family Guy" on TV?". The system answered: "Bleep!", meaning: Error. MacDonald tried again. And again. And a fourth time, and alas - there was the TV schedule. But then: "Record "Family Guy"." No bleeps, worked at the first try.

Now, MacDonald was fair enough to name his own explanations like echoes in the huge hall etc. as "excuses", but there may be another reason. Sir Viiv is, indeed, a Brit. While it's always pleasant to hear that accent at IDF among so many other non-native speakers who all take their tries, including ourselves with that rrrough Gerrrman accent.

Had Don only remembered that, after all, he was trying to talk to a Microsoft product, Media Center Edition. Now, having been to Redmond, we're aware that the weather there can be a bit British sometimes, the language, however, is definitely not. ยต
