"You might find this interesting. I purchased a PC from Dell with an Athlon 64 X2 3600+ processor along with Vista Premium. Dell installed a 32 bit version of Vista, and when I asked why, here is the reply:

"Mr. xxxx, I would like to let you know that Dell does not ship 64 bit version of vista in Vista home and Vista home premium. If you want to install Windows Vista Ultimate with 64 bit version, you can purchase teh version from Dell, as Dell ship only Vista ultimate in 64 bit version. It all happens due to business contract with microsoft. You may contact Dell Sales Department to purchase Windows Vista Ultimate. The Sales Department will be able to answer any questions about a product, make recommendations on items that will meet your needs, and provide pricing and availability information."
