Microsoft Vista 64 bit is no go in 2007

Chip vendors, others think it's too early
Monday, 15 January 2007, 09:48
WE ASKED the big chip boys whether they thought the Microsoft Vista 64 bit OS would take over the enthusiast market in 2007 and they all said no.

Without an exception, they all think it's too early and the drivers won't be that polished for 64 bit either. AMD and Intel have CPUs which can support 64 operating systems but the drivers are still lame, unpolished and slow compared with 32 bit.

Vista 64 bit will continue to be their ultimate goal but unfortunately Vista 32 bit will remain the dominant one. Intel said that Vista 32 is fine as it will address 2.75 or 3.25GB from the 4GB memory you stick in a machine. Graphics drivers are the weakest link. This news will certanly make some memory vendors cry into their beers. ยต

*BUT VENDORS are wetting themselves for a great Q2 this year simply because of Vista. The real upgrade and new machine wave is set to start in late Q1 and to continue riding on Q2. Everyone expected great Q4 2006 but Vista got delayed and screwed that all.
