Canada approves AMD's acquistion of ATI

With a couple of provisos
Friday, 13 October 2006, 15:28
AMD SAYS its proposed $5.4 billion acquisition of ATI Technologies Inc. was approved by the Canadian Minister of Industry.

The chip maker said it had to make a few promises to the Canadians, including continuing to do a spot of R&D up there in the wild expanses, and nominate a Canadian for election to its board some time in the next five years.

The deal remains subject to approval by ATI shareholders, who are meeting today and are expected to lap it up. ยต
