JAPANESE GIANT Panasonic said it has released the DMR-E700BD, which it claims as the first DVD recorder to support dual layer single side Blu-ray disks with a capacity of 50GB.

The firm said that the model will support both HD and analogue, and can record up to 4.5 hours of the former, and 63 hours of the latter.

The machine comes with tuners for terrestrial broadcasting, broadcast satellite and terrestrial analogue.

The drive supports both DVD-RAM and DVD-R disks and also includes an electronic programming guide. No details of pricing were given, but the drive will be available, initially in Japan, on the 31st of July. µ
