AMD layoffs may come in July
When asked about any near term layoffs, an AMD spokesperson said "This one falls firmly into the rumour and speculation category, and you know how we deal with those." That sounds like something between no and no comment.
What we are hearing in the background is there is indeed a so-called third round of layoffs coming, most likely in July. The prophets of doom on the message boards are all saying 20-30 per cent layoffs, but we can't buy that for a moment.
All of the layoffs to date have been far less severe than the rumours, so we would expect this to be similar. That is the long way of saying we don't have a clue about numbers, but a 30 per cent cull would be laughably high. µ
