SONY HAS UNVEILED a pair of new Vaio notebooks sporting Blu-Ray drives.

The first is the Vaio NS which features a 15.4-inch widescreen, Intel Centrino Duo 2.0GHz processor, 4GB of DDR2 memory, Intel 4500MHD graphics card and 250GB hard drive.

It is available in three colours - nightfall blue, silk white and granite silver - the Vaio NS notebook will go for around $1,000 and there will be a non-Blu-Ray version starting at about $650.

The slightly smaller Vaio CS has a 14.1-inch screen and packs in a bit more power under the hood with an Intel Centrino 2 2.26GHz processor, 4GB of DDR2 memory, 320GB hard drive and Intel 4500MHD graphics chip.

The CS comes even comes in four arty gloss colours - sangria, cosmopolitan, dove and black – or just a standard black matte finish. It'll go for around $1,070 and again there is a non Blu-Ray model for about $920.alt='vaio_cs'

Mike Abary, Sony's senior vice president of Vaio product marketing believes that these new notebooks bring a range of multi-media PC options for customers to choose from.

"And with a starting price of around $1,000 for the NS model, we're expecting a new audience to experience HD entertainment on their computers," he said. µ

Resolution?

Any word on if the screens will actually display 1080p video? What good's a Blu-Ray drive if you can only watch it in 720p?

Probably No 1080p

-> DAN : for these prices I doubt a 1080P capability... include the 14" display in the mix ... probably not fullHD capable.

How much are they in UK pounds?

Are we getting stuffed by Sony, maker of exploding batteries and experts in recalling badly made laptops?
