Intel creates disco ball from LCOS TV components

CHIP GIANT Intel has assembled a disco ball made of slivers of its abandoned LCOS TV technology for a holiday party it's holding next month. Engineers will no doubt do a credible impression of John Travolta moving and shaking on the disco floor.

That's according to a story in the New York Times. This makes the disco ball the occasion for another review of 2004 and how CEO Paul Otellini will do when he takes over the reigns next year.

We understand that disco balls were popular in the 1970s but we're pleased to say that's long after our time.

But as 1970 retro is coming back into fashion [Is it? I hope not. Ed.], perhaps Intel could re-enter the consumer market and sell disco balls to all and sundry.

A quick search on Froogle reveals a high price can be commanded for such objects. And if there's thousands of these LCOS components around, why the heck not? ยต
