Alcatel placed on high fibre legal diet

Patently infringes its rights, OFS claims
Wed Oct 29 2003, 14:35
FITEL USA is taking Alcatel to court in North Carolina for allegedly breaching a patent it own on optical fibre networking.

Fitel, which owns OFS, claimed that Alcatel has infringed a patent on so-called "metro" systems which use dual bands that include wavelength division multiplexing.

The firm wants an injunction stopping Alcatel from selling its Teralight Metro and Teralight Ultra fibre.

It also wants damages for infringement, and triple damages for being wilful at infringing.

OFS claimed that it had gone to great lengths to talk to Alcatel about the patent before taking it to court, but the talks stalled.

Alcatel has so far not commented on the legal shenanigans. ยต
