AMD mulls NY chip plant
AMD boss Hector Ruiz is to visit Albany, New York in the next month to discuss plans for a possible new fab.
Some clown on The INQUIRER wrote in 2006 about AMD plans for the plant, and ran into a storm of you know what because he called the location the Big Apple. Readers helpfully pointed out that the nickname applies only to the city and definitely not the state.
According to The Business Review, Ruiz will make a pilgrimage to the Albany area to visit the Luther Forest Technology Campus in Malta. Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno is quoted as saying that he talked yesterday with Ruiz to discuss the $3.2 billion facility.
AMD could forfeit $1.2 billion if it pulls the plug on the project, according to the piece. The mystery depends a tad when you consider recent gnomic utterances from the company about chip production. ยต

Of course, the "Empire State". What Empire? Why, the old British Empire, of course. Quite quaint to see them keep the old colonial name of "New" York. Can never quite free yourself from old Mama Britain's apron strings, can you?
Oh, gawd, it isn't enough that we have to put up with the arrogant a-hole from NYC, the not-so-honorable governor Elliott Spitzer (have you ever known a guy named Elliott that wasn't a complete nerd?), and the Tweedle-dee (Joe Bruno) and Tweedle-dum (Shelden Silver) of the NYS criminal enterprise known as the Legislature, but nooooo.... now we have to survive a visit from choking, puking Hector himself! Where's the cyanide, Mom, it's too much to ask!

AMD will NEVER build in Luther Forest, and the government of NY state will again have thrown away more than a billion dollars of taxpayer money, because AMD will figure out some way to get Spitzer, Bruno and Silver to let them off the hook. All it will take is a few well placed bribes...
