Fry's gets Pentium 4 knickers in a twist

Unless a 3GHz P4 is underclocked
Thursday, 22 May 2003, 11:26
LOOKS LIKE it's not just consumers who are puzzled about the different between a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 with hyperthreading, a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 without hyperthreading and a 3GHz with an 800MHz front side bus.

Etcetera.

Fry's Outpost site today lists a Pentium 4 3GHz 512K cache 800MHz front side bus Socket 478 HypeThreaded boxed processor for $229.

Just below, it describes the CPU speed as 2.4GHz and so we believe this is all a terrible SNAFU, unless, that is, the Pentium 4 3GHz 512K cache 800FSB Socket 478 HypeThreading boxed processor is underclocked.

Or Intel has adopted the AMD PR+ rating scheme. Which we doubt.

As you can see here, and below, when Fry's wakes up...
