Remote workers should be stopped accessing data

Remote chance of that happening
Thursday, 7 February 2008, 11:39

LOCAL GOVERNMENT. Who works there? About half of them.

And those that do shouldn’t be allowed to access data remotely using laptops, Crackberries and the like. At least that’s what 7o per cent of 241 of us think, according to an online survey.

The survey also revealed that eight out of ten people worry that people are just wandering into local government buildings logging onto networks and accessing confidential information.

Public sector data management is big news as the Government keeps losing information on UK citizens.

"It's clear from our research that the British public has little faith in
their local authorities' ability to secure confidential information," said Carole Theriault, senior security consultant at Sophos. "If organisations need to give employees access to work files, a tight security strategy must become a crucial part of the public sector's IT infrastructure.”

Fair enough but it is not as if they’re just leaving this stuff lying around in the street for anyone to pick up. Oh, hang on… µ
