Marvell slumps after Intel buy

What's good for the goose made the gander wonder

SHARES IN the Marvell Technology Group (tick: MRVL) fell by 15% yesterday on news that it had bought Intel's comms division for $600 million.

The value of the shares fell by $7.76 to close at $44.14 on NASDAQ. Intel shares also fell but only by 23 cents, closing at $18.05.

AMD, trading on the NYSE fell by 40 cents to close at $24.26. Dell, meanwhile, was in the doldrums at $23.61.

Rambus (tick: RMBS) was down 71 cents - it said it was examining errors in share options it had granted. Microsoft (tick: MSFT) climed by four cents to close at $22.86 on NASDAQ. Google (tick: GOOG) was down $1.90 to $402.32.

On the graphics front, Nvidia (tick: NVDA) was down 64 cents to close at $19.84, while rival ATI (tick: ATYT) fell five cents to $14.90. µ
