Dell Canada is not your friend

Astonishing tale of woe
Wednesday, 4 April 2007, 10:44
CUSTOMER SERVICE is pretty thin on the ground in the hallowed halls of Dell Canada if Glenn Caleval's experience is anything to go by. Caleval's blog, here details an extraordinary sequence of events triggered when he tried to purchase a power supply for his XPS 2010 laptop.

Caleval's tale of woe includes being told to ask a friend in the US to buy the stuff and ship it to him because the parts weren't available in Canada and culminates in him being accused of owning a stolen machine.

Even for people used to customer disservice from organisations such as BT, the Inland Revenue and British Rail, Glenn's detailed description of corporate stupidity will delight and amuse. Unless you're a Dell customer living in Canada, obviously.

Caleval concludes: "…do yourself a favour and avoid Dell like the plague." ยต

Dell & taxes

On New Year's Day I went online to order an item from Dell. The final cost showed that I had been charged
14% HST. A online chat inquiry responded that the new rate would be available on Jan 2. I then made 1 800 781 7401 call and was told I had to buy an expended warrantee. The amount was small but did Dell collect 1% on all their sales on Jan 1st?
