The public is wonderfully tolerant. It forgives everything except genius - Oscar Wilde
A TOP US boffin claims that computers will have human-level AI systems by 2029.
Ray Kurzweil said that humanity is just about to reach the stage where people will inplant tiny robots to make themselves more intelligent.
Speaking to the Beeb, Kurzweil said humanity will have both the hardware and the software to achieve human level artificial intelligence with the broad suppleness of human intelligence including our emotional intelligence by 2029.
So, not particularly high level then, given that some people have the emotional intelligence of a pocket calculator.
Kurzweil said civilisation was already fused between man and machine, all we have to do is start jacking machines under the bonnet of our brains.
This will mean that we would be able to enter virtual reality environments through the nervous system.
More here. µ
If we are all running windows we will probably have people crashing all over the place! Not pretty i will pass :D
Man and machine have been cojoined ever since we started wearing shoes.
Now how many times has that been predicted in the last 60 years?
it's true for americans.
But for the rest, don't think so hal.
Why do you publish such clap trap?
The most pathetic & weak tech journalism is farfetched un documented ‘some bloke says’ future nonsense, preceded by a sensationalist headline.
"we would be able to enter virtual reality environments"

I thought we did that on our own without machines anyway.... I usually call it day dreaming :)
... I suggest you read his book, "The Singularity is Near." It is a tough read - I couldn't digest more than a dozen pages at a time without taking a day just to consider the implications.

You may be surprised, as I was, to find out just how far behind you are in understanding the state of mankind's technological prowess.

The math and the reasoning are sound. The date may be off, but not by more than a decade.
On Intelligence, by Jeff Hawkins.

Read it, it's good :)
Most of the bosses I have worked for over the years in the IT industry could be outsmarted by a small calculator with missing buttons and a flat bettery. You really dont need a lot of computing power to outsmart the idiots that run this planet.
I love you for using the XKCD reference.

And to the comment a couple spots up...

SHOES?! More like rocks.
