Sun overtakes Dell

SUN AND DELL are doing a nice job of reflecting the epic Intel vs AMD struggle, both are 'pure plays' in the iAMD64 server world.

As such, with a little lag, they reflect the chip companies relative strengths in a direct way.

Because of this, Sun suddenly leapt past Dell as the #3 server vendor this quarter after losing the position in Q3/05 according to IDC here .

Sun's server revenue jumped 15.5% in Q2 to go from 11.2% last year to 12.9% of the market. Dell meanwhile slid from 11.1% to 10.3% in the Q1 to Q2 transistion.

Whoever picked those numbers, comparing one company year over year to another quarter to quarter needs to be beaten with a blunt object until all math skills are 'reset', then re-educated in statistics and common sense.

In either case, it looks like Sun is on a roll, partly due to the AMD train it is riding, partly due to the revamp of the company. It has been getting kicked around by Wall Street a lot lately, but stayed the course. It looks like the hard work is finally starting to pay off for Sun, is this its day in the.. nope can't say it. µ
