Wants Israel to cough up $600 million
Sun Nov 09 2003, 12:51
A REPORT in Israeli newspaper Haaretz says that Intel has applied for government subsidies to upgrade its Kiriat Gat manufacturing facilities to use 90 nanometer technology.

The report said the upgraded fab will be used to make flash memory - currently there's a large shortage of these parts due to high consumer demand.

The Israeli government is being asked to cough up $600 million to help not exactly cash strapped Intel convert the fabrication plant.

The paper says that the conversion will proceed at $100 million during 2004, and the rest over subsequent years.

The report in Haaretz is in Hebrew, and can be found here.
