LEADING MOBILE operator, T-Mobile, has just announced a strategic tie-up with Yahoo to place adverts onto its Web’n’walk mobile internet service. The pair expect the first such ads to appear before Q3 2008.
As Phil Chapman, director of marketing with T-Mobile, explained, " Conventional mobile marketing tools limit the levels of interaction."
What Yahoo intends to do is help put banner advertising through the internet onto mobile phones via Web'n'walk. These ads will be exclusively sold and served by Yahoo.
When speaking at CES last week, CEO Jerry Yang claimed that Yahoo is looking to bring the infamous 'rich web experience' to the mobile web and this new partnership provides solid evidence of how it intends to do so.
Yahoo is hoping that by adding mobile ads to the mix, it will grab a larger share of the whole net based ad market.
As Yahoo's Geraldine Wilson put it, "Advertisers are fast recognising the value of mobile advertising as a core part of their digital campaigns."
This deal is definitely one in the eye for Google. µ
