COULD DAAMIT BE preparing to send its processors into Overdrive?
The ATI bods have long built an Overdrive feature into their graphics card drivers, allowing for some clock-pumping overclocking action to boost performance. Well, in the light of increased competition from Chipzilla, it seems that AMD could well be taking a lesson from its Canadian cousins and including such a feature with new Phenom processors.
A screenshot out of China shows an overclocking programme, released by AMD, that allows for Phenom's four cores to be adjusted independently, giving the maximum performance for each chip.
Quite when the programme will see the light of day, if ever, we don't know. But it will put pressure on Intel to be a little more overclocking friendly, we think. µ

The multiplier will be locked, but only upwards.. this will enable you to overclock only the best core and that is a BOOOOOOOM. Only thing left is better OS support for thread binding, so that those still single threaded apps can be run on the fastest core exclusively :D.

you sir, are a cad. learn a little about the field.
it would be stellar if AMD allows overclocking via this utility on OEM motherboards that traditionaly block out such features (ala, rivatuner).
From the SAME Chinese website, on a later date:

"It seems that all you overclock fans are using the pic to misleading the public. We are just using a unlocked engineering sample, so the AMD OverDrive show the multiplier like this. Those final retail Phenom X4 may have thier multiplier locked.

Yes, that OverDrive may have OC ability. But we can almost sure that Phenom X4's ability is not that strong (unless they decide to continue the Black edition on Phenom)."

*snark* :D
OVERCLOCKING To point of remaining stable & operational is BEST Way to run your CARD. Some have automatic dial out to Overclocking Server that adjusts unit once automatically, don't do it twice, as its always less, up to 20% boost in numbers seems like much better of operation in total, smooth & problem free. it is because effiency goes up much more than 20% in 20% speed boost, as its near optimum efficency inside game card when fully overclocked.

Pick & Choose overclocking you can redo, again & again & reset, yet it is at best , say 15% of 20% potential usually much less or cmos goes out, or tail spinning kalidoscope appears, often with multiple overlapping images,, even if same as server would have set it at, somehow automatic setting is best & from card mfg server is as good as you could ever do.
