Mac fans get some Steamy action

Crossover runs Windows games on OSX
Friday, 5 October 2007, 11:10

NEGLECTED MAC HARDWARE BUFFS now have something to shout about. Valve's Gabe Newell may not be too keen to bring his top games to the fruity platform, but that hasn't stopped a new release of Crossover doing the job for him.

Crossover is an application designed to get Windows programmes running on Mac and Linux. Now, this isn't a rare thing - both VMWare and Parallels offer Windows emulation on OSX - but the gaming possibility is, since neither of those platforms offer proper DirectX emulation.

Version 6.2 brings a bunch of updates and compatibility fixes which enable Mac fanbois to get their hands on Team Fortress 2, the new multiplayer game from Valve.

Of course, Mac fans can always reboot into Windows with Apple's own Boot Camp, but where's the fun in that?

With the availability of the game in OSX, watch the benchmarking wars start. What happens when you put an 8800 SLI setup in a Mac Pro? We'd sure as heck like to find out.

You can grab Crossover from here . If you're feeling really boring, you could use it to run Office, too. Ugh. µ

Finally...

Wish I can have a Mac. Well, one more year. Don't forget, Tiger OS is nearing its way. Expect it in the next three weeks. Apple rules especially with their MacBook Pro.

Finale?

Wow, Cool: Any more inside info for us? Does Apple really "rule" (with a MacBook)? Is "Tiger OS" coming soon! Give us more! (Pls add me as a friend)

Switch?

You can always switch as long as you upgrade to the OS :P

And you people complain about Windows. Atleast you dont have to upgrade or get sued for running whatever you want to run.

This reminds me. Is it just me or does Apple seem Communist? All hail the messiah.

DirectX

Um, both Parallels and VMWare support DirectX now. It's only DirectX 8 but lots of games work just fine.

BJU

This reminds me of the time I was at BJU. I totally got schooled in the ways of BJ's, kinda like now. Let's just say that if a Mac product beats the PC "equivalent" on an emulation platform, they truely and regretably are the indisputable gaming champs. Let's see what 3dMark comes out with for Mac benchmarks.

overrated

Leopard isnt adding that much to OS X...I run a 3 month old macbook pro 2 gigs ram at work and it consistently under preforms my xp setup at home, which is a 5 yr old system

My mac constantly freezes up, applications unexpectedly quit and everything runs significantly slower than my pc. This is a clean OS too, i run almost no non apple apps. very un-mac like right?

I want to like macs but from personal experience...they dont deliver

It's here...

Hi Merek, guess what; a brand new X-Box 360 was send to you by Microsoft, there's a cheque, too...
So stop gaming for a bit already and come home and pick it up, Hug Mom.
