Bloke thinks Apples are cheaper than PCs

Computerworld's bizarre claim
Monday, 11 June 2007, 12:25
JUST AS APPLE starts to ramp up the marketing for its eyePod and its forthcoming operating system Computerworld has released an article which claims to prove that Apple is cheaper than PCs.

The story has been penned by Scot Finnie who has been recently converted to the Apple religion who thinks he is in a good position to be objective.

Firstly he discounts any computer which sells for $600 or less fundamentally because they will always be much cheaper than Apple.

So by ignoring at the stroke of a pen all those PCs which happen to be cheaper than an Apple, Scot manages to come up with the startling conclusion that an Apple is on a par with a PC.

He admits that if you search the Windows side first, you'll quickly discover machines that, in features and price, fit in between the Mac SKUs.

In those "in between" niches you'd be paying an unnecessary premium to get a Mac instead, Scott admits.

However when you get into the top-end, Apple comes into its own and it is hard to find machines that can match the sort of functionality that the MacBook Pro 17 provides.

So in other words, while Scott appears to be trying to trot out a line that Apples are cheaper than PCs, he actually ends up confirming the myth that Jobs' Mob produces expensive niche machines. ยต
