AMD extends chip deal with IBM

Three more years
Wednesday, 22 September 2004, 07:10
A FILING WITH the Securities and Exchange Commission shows that AMD has extended its existing deal with IBM.

According to Investors.com, the SEC filing will mean AMD will pay IBM up to $280 million from September this year to December 2008.

The deal means that AMD will also be able to draw on semiconductor technologies developed by Big Blue.

It still remains somewhat unclear whether IBM will start churning out chips for AMD if there's sufficient demand to soak up production at the CPU company's Dresden fab.

But AMD engineers do work at IBM's East Fishkill plant.
