Dell debuts HC version of its 24-inch beast

Increased pic quality does not increase the price

DELL IS SET TO introduce a new widescreen display in July. And after taking a brief look at the revamped line-up, we can confirm that all hell will break loose in this market.

Unlike some crows from ICT press ranting about the size of widescreen market, we have acquired some solid numbers and they speak about explosion in this segment. Expect that 19-inch widescreen announcement from Dell was not the only one, it is just the beginning of a tidal wave among Tier One vendors.

Under the name 2407WFP-HC, Dell Japan is now selling a rewamped 24-inch display with a 92% NTSC colour gamut, bringing high image quality for photographers, video and graphics professionals. Other than those folk, gamers and home enthusiasts will also appreciate the appearance of this display, because the value this model offers is relatively unrivalled. Pixel per dollar ratio is unbeatable, even when compared to lower end models. Yes, 9-in-2 display readers and D-SUB15/DVI-I/S-VHS/Composite connectors are present as well.

Difference between 2407WFP and 2407WFP-HC do not exist while the display is switched off...

Other specs have not changed, so 2407WFP-HC continues to spot 1920x1200 resolution (2.3 MPixel), 1000:1 contrast ratio and 450cd/m2 brightness. Response time stayed at 6ms, while viewing angle is 178 degrees on both horizontal and vertical axis. There were no words about implementing LED backlight, but at a price of 870 US dollars in Japan and expected price of 660 US dollars in North America, there is no doubt that Dell wanted to increase the quality and keep the very affordable price at the same time, not an easy thing to do.

Personally, what this display (and every other 24-inch model on the market) is missing is glossy coating for maximum contrast, but as far as yours truly is aware, there is no such model… for now. NEC's 20-inch one is absolutely great in picture quality segment, but sadly it just lacks those four inches and FullHD resolution. ยต
