Sony delays its own Blu-ray player

Only rivals ready
Tue Oct 24 2006, 08:30
SONY HAS delayed the release of its first Blu-ray disk player until December.

Sony's BDP-S1 was supposed to ship in mid-August but this date has now been pushed back to early December. The champion for the Blu-ray format, claimed that it is having difficulty getting all the bits together to make a player on time.

This is a pretty odd excuse as Sony's rivals Panasonic and Samsung are shipping their Blu-ray disc players without problems. Also there were reports that Sony had been stockpiling Blu-ray lasers for its PlayStation 3.

With an early December release date Sony will be pushing it to get players into shops worldwide for Christmas. It could be yet another own goal in a year that Sony would rather forget. µ
