Acer notebook sales increase

TAIWAN'S pre-eminent maker of groin warmers said that it had a 30-40 per cent increase in the sales of laptops last year.

Acer claimed that a successful global marketing strategy is behind the growth. Acer sold 9.90 million laptops in 2006, more than half of them in the EU.

According to AP, Acer wants to flog a few more to the US and greater China markets this year. However, Acer's spin on the issue might be just optimistic. Other than the fact that the sales seem to be European specific, beancounters at analyst firms have been noting for some time that sales of laptops have been increasing across all companies and not just Acer.
