Wednesday, 2 January 2008, 15:56

WEB SITE Apple Insider said sources close to the Cupertino firm’s plan are investigating its “Silverthorne” processor for a handheld device.

Intel has touted Silverthorne as the future chip for UMPCs – they haven’t done particularly well in the past.

Although the world+dog wants a fully functional PC that is small enough to fit in your pocket, the bill of materials (BOM) means the cost will leave you of pocket. Intel's Silverthorne is not ready for mass productions yet.

But Intel is still a believer, and so is AMD.

Meanwhile, the third X86 supplier, Via, has had a cute little model available for sale for a few months now. Apple Insider - Apple in Cider, geddit?!? is here. µ
