Nintendo "enjoys" a 10 per cent slice of Sony's Playstation profits

Owns the name, apparently

SLASHDOT HAS A SNIPPET pointing to an interesting story on ConsoleTalk, which therefore has buckled under the pressure and can't be read.

However, it seems that Nintendo, while watching its Gamecube console slip into third place behind the X-Box in some territories, can still raise a smile as Sony's mighty Playstation2 keeps right out in front.

For Nintendo has an interest on the Playstation name, having once used it for some "CD and Cartridge based system to play SNES games" the sites report. And so the company has settled for just ten per cent od Sony's Playstation earnings or some $2.3 billion dollars thus far.

The story is that Nintendo is to allow Sony to pay off the $2.3 billion bit by bit over the next 20 years.

Our rusty memories are unable to recall this Nintendo Playstation part, and Sony is yet to respond to our Inquiry, so toss this on the rumour mill pile for the time being...

Here's slashdot.

And here's a spot of history from the Console Database. µ
