Samsung Omnia phone looks oddly familiar

KOREAN GIANT SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS has picked a rather opportune moment to unveil its new handheld mobile device, the Samsung Omnia.

Boasting a 3.2 inch display covering most of its shiny, sleek surface, the quad band phone (850/900/1800/1900MHz) purportedly works on both WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications).

The Samsung Omnia apparently also offers high-speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) as well as some 7.2M bits per second.

Coming in 8GB and a 16GB configurations, the phone’s 240 by 400 pixel resolution probably comes in handy for watching vids which the device can run on DivX, XviD, H.263, H.264, Windows Media Video and MP4.

Measuring in at 112mm by 57mm by 12.5mm, the little handheld multimedia device also packs a five megapixel camera, a GPS, bluetooth and Radio.

It is due to become available in Europe by July. µ

Samsung Omnia

I realised that whenever i install 3rd party apps. and those are required to be installed in the device memory, it will install in the device memory's storage, but not program memory. is there anyway to install them in program memory? because the device storage have very little space. I have 3.14mb storage memory and 48.92MB storage memory left in the device.

http://www.Samsung-Omnia.org really helped me a lot.

Yes, time, money and vision

Eeea, size does matter, eee, sorry to annoy you. You have always think which one though.

3.5" screen on 25cm optimal reading distance has the same angular size (and only this really matter) as ~10-12" inch monitor seen from typical distance of 20-30 inches

So, good for you if you're happy with 0.077 megapixel QVGA screen on your almost laptop screen seeing 10-20% of web page. Or twice of that on iPhone - you must be having well massaged hand for this

Waste of time?!

Hey Slava,

First of all, I am both an Iphone user and also a WM mobile user.

I am kinda disappointed when I see your comment. How can someone distinguish a good SMARTphone by the size and resoluion of the screen??!

Pls get the meaning of Smartphone and think abt what kinda "smart" features instead of commenting on the hardware specs.

I think you are wasting our time here instead by making this kinda remark.

I'm thinking this trumps Apple by a mile

Correct me here, does the Apple support Xvid and divX? I don't know the answer, but I'm guessing they poo-pood the standard, which would mean a savvy consumer would now have an awesome way to watch videos downloaded as torrents.
