Mobile phone goes Kosher

That's without the internet
Tuesday, 21 February 2006, 14:23
APPARENTLY, an Israeli mobile phone maker is to bow to pressure from the Orthodox Jewish community and make a Kosher phone.

No, we're not sure how a phone becomes Kosher and, having asked around a few almost experts here in the ‘Holy Land' we're still a bit baffled.

Anyhow, the phones from Partner Communications will have text and Internet services deactivated, which is how the ultra-Orthodox like them - apparently.

Partner is falling into line with rival phone suppliers here in Israel in an attempt to woo the million-strong Orthodox believers here.

Rabbis have previously warned that the Internet can expose the Orthodox to corrupting influences and no-doubt some text spam could also fall into this category. ยต
