TOSHIBA HAS RELEASED a 1.8-inch HDD drive that can store 250GB worth of data.
The MK2529GSG 5,400rpm drive uses a SATA interface with a 3Gbps data transfer rate and has a seek time of just 15ms.
Not only that, it is 8mm thin which makes it really handy for ultra-portable laptops and portable media players.
Toshiba released a 240GB MK2431GAH drive a few weeks ago which broke all records on the size of harddrives. The record was set in June with the 160GB MK1617GSG drive.
The SATA interface means that the tiny drive could provide some stiff competition to the slim but expensive Solid State Drives.
According to a press release the new drive will be rolling out of the factories in November. µ
How can the SATA interface alone provide competition to the SSDs??? There is NO WAY this drive is gonna give the through-put that the new Intel SSDs can..... Why is this article so misleading?? Small, and high density, ya ok, but SATA interface alone giving a gr8 speed boost? Its just a 5400-rpm HDD n has a seek time of 15ms.... Why do you exaggerate so much....
