9800 GX2 gets nekkid

Stripped and snapped
Monday, 28 January 2008, 15:19

DOES THE THOUGHT of naked graphics cards get you all clocked up under your heatsink? Does your thermal paste go all gooey at the prospect of bare silicon being exposed to the elements?

Well you might want to avoid this forum post, which has the Nvidia 9800 GX2 laid bare for all to see underneath its rather large heatsink.

Visible are the G92 chips that make up the bulk of the card's processing power - although these are labeled as G92-450, as opposed to the G92-400 on standard 8800 GTS cards. Interesting? Possibly.

You can also see the Samsung memory chips and the bridge chip that handles cross-board comms.

It certainly looks like a big beast... how long can Nvidia contain it? ยต
