Dell hit by further notebook shortages

While demand outstrips supply
Fri Aug 17 2007, 10:40
A SHORTAGE of batteries and flat panels is continuing to affect mighty hardware firm Dell, a report said.

According to the Taiwan Economic News, Dell is putting pressure on original design manufacturers (ODMs) like Quanta to make more kit for it.

The real pressure is in consumer notebooks, and it's not just Dell that's affected - HP and Acer are also having problems sourcing components.

Quanta, Wistron and Compal are the three biggest ODMs but the rising demand for low end notebooks, coupled with shortages of components, are putting pressure on the multinationals. µ
