IBM leakware rubbishes server competition

Far, far behind... astronomical
Thu Nov 29 2001, 12:26
AN INTERNAL IBM DOCUMENT has revealed how Sir Lou's Corporation will take on Sun, HP, Compaq and Fujitsu in the server market.

The document, entitled p660-6M1 competitive marketing, outlines what IBM thinks makes it better than the others on price/performance, technology cost of ownership and the like.

We will let the material below speak for itself but have to pass comment on Chart 6, which summarises the advantages of the p660-6M1 over the competition by describing Big Blue's machine as "high value" in the cost of ownership derby, and the others as "astronomical" - key metrics if you're a marketeer.

The competition does not appear to be "in sight" on eliminating repetitive failures, while in unscheduled interruption avoidance the competition is far behind, far far behind, or not in sight - which goes for RAS too.

Such is the language of reasoned technical debate and the art of gentle persuasion. ยต
