NORWEGIAN browser maker Opera has released some statistics and information showing what kind of stuff people browse using Opera Mini on their mobile phones.
Social notworking sites rank highest, which really isn't all that surprising. All in all, such sites account for 40 per cent of worldwide traffic generated. Wap seems to be a dying duck ready to be taken to a Chinese take away, as such sites only accounted for 23 per cent of traffic.
Opera Mini has apparently been installed by 44 million users and has been used to view more than 2.4 billion pages in March alone. According to Opera, almost 12 million people used its mobile browser and generated 33 million megabytes of traffic in the same month.
Indonesia and the USA are most to blame for giving social notworking sites a high percentage of traffic. Sixty-three per cent of users in Indonesia used Opera Mini to view their accounts on Friendster.com, ranking Yahoo Indonesia and Google second and third.
The Americans had the hots for Myspace, Google and Mocospace, whatever that is.
Social notworking sites were also highly popular in India, 48.9 per cent of traffic going to Orkut.
In the UK, everyone was trying to fix a date over Facebook or update their happy-slapping photo albums without mum peeking over their shoulders to have a look at what devious thing they're up to.
Auntie Beeb had to make do with sixth place whilst Google and Live.com hogged the second and third places. Ebay was included in the top ten, making the UK one of only two countries where chavs enjoyed accessing the auction site to get rid of stuff they'd nicked from tourists or the local corner shop.
Germany enjoyed using Google most, whilst the country's most popular not working site StudiVz.net came in second. Apparently, Germans enjoy shopping over their mobiles, seven per cent of traffic going to places where they could buy bratwurst and spare parts for tanks.
The INQ has a forum called Hermits Cave, which is the world's premier antisocial notworking site in terms of non-positive user experience and decreased stickiness.

"No one uses it with Opera Mini. µ"

This is not true any longer.

Opera mini is junk btw, I have just tried it on a windows mobile device. It runs within a Java application, can't get rid of the stupid header of the Java app.

Junk.
