ALI ready for the K8, is the world ready for ALI?

The chipset is there but where's the support?

WE'VE DISCOVERED a link that implies ALI has a complete design for the AMD K8 microprocessor.

ALI supports DDR 266/333, has AGP 8X, PCI, USB 2.0 and IDE controllers as well as integrated sound and LAN.

The chipset is packed in a 564-ball 31mmx31mm BGA package.

Even if its core logic is ready we are not sure who, if anyone, will support this ALI M1687 chipset followed by the M1563 south bridge.

ALI has been shy and retiring for a few years and even now is promising a Pentium 4 chipset although we haven't seen boards using that yet.

The motherboard manufacturers appear to want to go for Nforce 3 or VIA K8 solution and even SIS could have problems finding supporters for its solutions.

We wish UMC which now owns ALI a lot of luck with this chipset. µ
