Wooden IPod revealed

That ain't no Apple wood
Wed Jul 06 2005, 08:39
AN OWNER of the reassuringly expensive and lovely to look at behold iPod has decided that Steve Job's vision in chrome needs a make over.

The unnamed bloke said that although he has had a fourth generation iPod since they came out, he has never liked the white finish. So he has decided to replace the lot with a real wood look.

While for most Apple users this would be complete and utter heresy, akin to putting a diesel motor in a Jaguar, this bloke describes it as a "fun side project".

The iPod owner told other modders here, that "Project Redwood," was all part of his cunning plan to apply a wood finish to just about everything on his desk to have a matching set.

"I did not want to simply apply a wood veneer, or a fake finish to the iPod. I wanted to use real wood. To do this I needed to carefully carve out a duplicate faceplate out of a raw piece of wood," he said.

The wood he used is African Padauk. It is a high quality hardwood that is very easy to work with, and naturally red in colour, he said. You can see the end result here. ยต
