Dear Nick,
To be honest, I don't get it. The stereotypical Fruithead that I imagine would be smug, supercilious, somewhat selfish and suburban. These threats smack of religious fundamentalism, and dire insecurity complex. It must be self-imposed, since Apple has yet to market iSpectacles to limit one's viewpoint and iHeadband, to ensure optimal utilization of brainwave activity.
As regards the issue of the worm, it apprently has in virtualization burrowed deep within the substrata of the Apple fanbase to illicit such responses, whose membership composes of those desperately seeking a cause, way of life or other esoteric existential reason to hang onto this plane of existence.
Observantly yours,
Peter Chan

Let me see if I get this right - you're impressed that an operating system can open all of 82 windows without falling over ?
Even though it took 'ages'.
While the machine went 'apeshit bananas'.
Not awfully high standards you have there !

Subject: Samsung may be eying AMD
ADamson:
Because of PowerPC licensing and IBM connections, it's not that farfetched that Samsung grabs AMD before Microsoft grabs it and then counts on getting lots of PowerPC business from M$. Yes, lots because when M$ introduces a working db-centric OS (Longhorn??) it will only run on PowerPC.

Subject: How the hell can you critisize...
How the hell can you see fit to critisize a BBC article, when the inq, is, well, the inq.
I don't actually know one person worth their salt that will read an Inquirer article, or plain and simple laugh out loud at it.
You guys constantly spew crap, blatently make up stories (either that or just post opinion peices from 'journalists' who are at the bottom of the heap anyway writing for this site), and barely link your sources only when you can feel bothered.
This site has the WORST journalism I have ever seen, bar none. Not only that, but every story you write destroys the English language that little bit more.
It just goes to show the complete stupidity of people who write here that you have the guts to go and critisize other sites like that, get your act together and grow up.

Subject: The BBC is where old IT hacks go to die
After contemplating a long and verbose letter to you with my opinions on the article (title mentioned in the head line) that might even end up in the letters column. I would just like to say that living in the states we do not even get that level of news coverage or even television programing in general. Being originally from the "old world" my self I know a good news program when i see one and i haven't seen one ever since leaving Russia. To be honest valid criticisms is exactly why i visit your page every day but their is some perspective to be had as well.

Subject: Vista UnWHATable?
Sir,
I'll have to kindly disagree with you. At our work, we have a test pc with vista business. It's a low spec machine, for pure testing. 512, p4, Intel mobo, integrated gpu, ya know, typical business trash pc.
So a couple of buddies and i gather around the machine after reading the story, "wait you do it" , "no you do it", "AH SHUT THE HELL UP both of yas! i'll do it!" 20 seconds later, that beast was FREAKING out. explorer windows going everywhere, the start bar is gone, the windows are piling up on each other and we're all having a good laugh, PWNED!. we come back 8 hours later, ya that thing was still going crazy.
So we thought, "what about that xp machine over there?" BHAM does the same damn thing.
Moral of the story? Why can't that be fixed?

I think Mr. Kurzweil is spouting complete nonsense. On the off chance that there is some breakthrough that allows immortality, I guarantee it will be the blackest secret in the history of the human race.
Just imagine the difficulty any government would have controlling a population that thinks the government is denying them the benefit of such a breakthrough. Then imagine what would happen if people really did stop dying of old age. I think either scenario involves chaos on a scale never before seen.

Subject: AMD declares peace in Intel price war
This is news? AMD already slashed prices July 10th prempting Intel's July 22 cut. AMD shoots it last salvo and calls a truce? WTF?
Fella's, listen, AMD is out of ammo! (Of course they can sell them at a loss.) Oh wait, "Maybe if we call a truce Otellini and company might not slash prices on the 22nd." Give me AFB! This is just another AMD spin, "See, we're the good guys, we tried to end this terrible price war first". Nice try. AMD blows smoke up EVERYONE'S ass for nine months, billions lost on promises, and now this?
The blood was in the water 9 months ago. AMD knew it then, so did NVDA, and so did INTC.
Nvidia, and 45nM Yorkie SHARKS are making their passes for the final COUP DE GRAS. Bon Appetite!

Subject: Leaked Potter book photos buzz round the Internet
Who the hell reads books on computers anyway? would have been less effort and probably more useful if someone simple had read the book out into a sound file, although with voice recognition and what not that might lead to a suit, but still..
As for spoilers, there are people that stay offline a few weeks to avoid seeing spoilers, and I think they are right in assuming that's the only way to avoid them.

Interesting. It might be true about the analog and digital worlds being indistinguishable but I don't think it's going to happen in the near future just yet. Still, as advanced as we might become, I don't see any way how we could be immortal. So that's some heavy stuff, heh. Well, I guess we have to live those 10 years and find out.

Subject: Peace to price war?
Has not AMD just discounted all of their desktop chips not more than 1 or 2 weeks ago? Now they are taking the high road and saying 'we will not respond'? PSSST...they already responded.... much like they did last Feb.
As every chip on the desktop (short of the FX abomination) is sub $200, exactly how could they possible continue to cut prices?
As always, nice 'slant' to your articles. I guess on the bright side AMD is at least learning how to play the media...

Are you living in a time warp?
Blog you've refered to is dated October 2005. And Singularity is sure more than 8.5 years away. Wanna bet your 10$ against my 100$ on that? If not, don't publish stuff like that.

Subject: Bosses use Facebook to snoop on employees
Hello Esther (love the name):
This isn't really surprising, as people never seem to learn. Back in the dark ages of the Internet (as before Web 2.0 when interactive content meant newsgroups) I would always be surprised at the people who would post on one newsgroup as Joe Average, yet use the same user name/e-mail in other newsgroups for their flame wars, and be surprised people would figure it out.
So the prudent person today never says anything about their employer, posts nothing inflammatory online, and keeps mum about anything that may come back to bite them.
It's a little sad as the Internet used to have the potential for far flung people to meet, and it still does, but now one always has to assume their employer or others or watching, and that takes away a lot of it.
Sincerely,
Scott Peterson

Subject: Old Hardware Talk
Hey Mr. Dan Bas-thing-of-a-jig
Yep, comps a good 3-4 years old. Was influenced by The INQUIRER into getting the top rig. Its not so much the cost of hardware I'm worried about, but the unnecessary graphics that games are demanding these days, especially ones that don't optimize culling, polygon drawing, and animation calculations.
I estimated 3000 dollars worth cuz I kept swapping hardware and should've went with Theo's suggestion of buying middle-end every 1-2 years to save myself panick.
3000 for 3-4 years is the result of premature short-term thinking; especially when unneeded expenditures could've been allocated elsewhere. 1200 for 1-2 years sounds more efficient.
Of course, since I've hit the point of media desensitization, where games, music, TV shows, and movies diminish in spectacle, I probably won't require spending any money at all anymore.

Subject: Google Search: LED light bulb
Went to my browser address bar and typed in "G LED light bulb" and got a long list of folks selling 12v, 120v, 240v household LED lights to replace incandescant, fluorescent tubes & CF bulbs. LED replacement for standard flashlight (torch) bulbs along with many other specialized applications also available.
No need to wait for them to reach market. Just go to the webstores & price out the ones you need :)

I can't help but think this some kind of twisted attempt to lobby the BBC for a job. Do you expect they will read this article and think, "oh here's an old fart seems to know what he's talking about. Let's hire him"?
