Although prepared for martyrdom, I preferred that it be postponed - Winston Churchill
The memo with the header "The Peanut Butter Manifesto" argues that Yahoo's investment strategy is like spreading peanut butter too thinly on bread.
Garlinghouse points out that he really hates peanut butter and, let's face it, high carbohydrates on white bread are not going to do you much good either.
The company needs staff cuts of 20 percent and a focused, cohesive vision, says Garlinghouse who does not seem to wear specs. Garlinghouse said that Yahoo wants to do everything and be everything to everyone.
In Yahoo, "there are so many people in charge, or believe that they are in charge, that it's not clear if anyone is in charge", said Garlinghouse, who wants to charge ahead.
He believes Yahoo should "embrace problems and challenges" and cuddle up to some decisive action after taking her out for a few drinks to loosen her up a bit.
He said that there were several groups that pit established business units against new initiatives, including music, photos, search, applications, social networks, global strategy and even who controls the Yahoo home page.
Apparently, the memo has a bit of support among Yahoo executives, although it is not quite clear who leaked it or why.
