Hands held
Thursday, 4 May 2006, 18:30
GRAPHICS CHIP FIRM ATI says it has come to an agreement with mobile phone firm Nokia to be best mates.

The pair said they would work "closely" together to bring 3D gaming, mobile TV, video and anything else they can think of, to Nokia's range of mobile devices.

Ilkka Raiskinen, a senior veep at Nokia said it was announcing this long-term strategic partnership now, "so that developers have the next 12 to 18 months to be innovative and create world class mobile multimedia experiences."

ATI and Nokia say they want to promote open standards along with integrated hardware, software and tools so that developers need only create content once for consumers to enjoy on a range of devices.

ATI said a tools chain and software development kit (SDK) would be available for developers this autumn. The pair also said they would hold a series of joint workshops to show off what they're working on to developers. ยต
