SGI will help it boldly go
Monday, 23 July 2007, 15:33
NASA WILL kit itself out with an SGI Altix supercomputer using 1,024 dual core Itanium 2 chips.

The system, claimed SGI, will generate 13.1 TFLOPS. NASA also bought a 240TB SGI Infinite Storage 10000 system.

The 4TB memory Altix 4700 will be installed at Moffett Field California at NASA's Advanced Suprecomputing facility in August. It only uses one copy of Linux, said SGI.

The supercomputer is intended to eventually replace the Columbia supercomputer system. ยต
