CISCO IS shipping a whopping 528-port Fibre Channel storage device designed to help organizations consolidate SANs.

The Cisco MDS 9513 MultiLayer Director was first talked about as long ago as August 2002 when Cisco first dipped its toes in the FC market. Back then it had a mere 256 ports.

It maintains that demand has only now caught up with the capabilities of such a product, which is why now's the time for its commercial debut. Cisco says it will help users avoid oversubscribing current switches. µ
