Boxx intros four dual-core AMD workstations

HARDWARE FIRM Boxx said it has introduced a four dual core AMD Opteron machine called the Apexx 4 which can support up to 64GB of memory.

The machine uses 800 series processors, and is aimed at professionals working on visual effects (VFX).

The firm said it was compatible with a broad range of applications and includes Mental Images' Mental Ray rendering software. The director of platforms and security for Mental Images said that it can speed up rendering by a factor of over seven compared to a uniprocessor machine.
