Sony recalls Playstation 2 AC adaptors

Melt effect
Tuesday, 13 September 2005, 12:45
SONY IS recalling the AC adaptors that came with the slim line PlayStation 2 they released earlier this year, with reports that the adaptor has been seen to fully melt.

According to Eurogamer, here, the company is blaming a subcontractor for the fault which will now see Sony recall and replace free of charge all AC adapters made between August and December of 2004 and supplied with PS2 models SCPH70002, 70003 and 70004. It has set up a special website, here for those with the affected PS2 models to get advice and get their AC adaptor replaced.

For the moment the advice from Sony is not to plug in and play your PS2 if it is an affected model until a replacement AC adaptor arrives.

And don't dare start gloating, Microsoft types. The Xbox had a fault in it not so long ago that required 14.1 million Xbox power cables to be recalled lest they too blow little Timmy straight out the living room. µ
