Tagan shows off LED lit PSUs

CES 2008 Cases and more

TAGAN IS ONE of those companies that you don't hear about all that often, but if their CES offerings are any indication, it has a lot to offer. They had three things that I liked, one of which I bought the predecessor for last week.

The first one is the Tagan CS Diablo case. There were a few things that I liked about this, the fans and the mesh side panel. The front of the case is dominated by a 250mm fan at the bottom, but that is nothing compared to the 360mm one on the side. Both are blue LED lit, but mercifully you can turn those off.

The side panel is mesh so you can see in and air can flow through. There are a few other LEDs scattered here and there and a bunch of drive bays, all of which are tool free. It is going to retail for $105-120, worth a look if you are buying cases.

The PSU is the Tagan BZ series, 1100W in this case, pun intended. It has two things I like a lot, the first being modular with screw in cables. They lock securely and should not come loose, not that it is a big problem, but it can be annoying at times.

The other thing they did right is the LED lighting for the modular cables. Those cables are color coded, and the LED lights are the correct color around the base. It Is a nice touch that no one else I have seen does. The PSU itself is 80+% efficient and has 6 12v rails and a gold pin ground.

The last one is a simple USB case for SATA 2.5 inch drives. I just bought the predecessor to this last week after looking around quite a bit. Sure enough, a week later, a new model is out, doesn't it always work out that way?

The new model has a leather case like the old, the one standout part is the USB cable. It is incorporated into the strap and when you close the case, the USB ports are covered and it locks the flap closed. There are also some pockets inside for notes and business cards. If I had only waited 2 weeks.....ยต

Having a mesh side panel is like having an open case...

Shame about the LED's

What a shame about Tagan insisting on putting LED's on everything. I used to really like the plain all black PSU's for their get the job done/no nonsense looks (like Thinkpads). Please stop focusing on this superficial BS Tagan...
