Thanes are getting bitter

THE “Scottish Play” which cannot be named on the stage, is set to be performed on your mobile phone.

Macbeth is to be produced in a format suitable for PCs, mobiles and personal digital assistants (PDAs) as part of a Scottish tourism project.

Cameron Taylor, a partner in the firm behind the project, said a "punter" can text "Macbeth", the character, and interact with that body of content. It will tell you where to go to get another part of the story.

You can take people with PDAs and mobiles to the site and, through the words and pictures, they can imagine the castle and shift their perception of Forres, he said.

The concept of Scottish history being told by a pro-Tudor playwrite, with his politically incorrect view of Wiccans, may not appeal to many Scots who might see it as a tale full of sound and fury and signifying nothing.

As Shakespeare was from Birmingham, it is safe to say: "Beware the Ideas of March", in a Wolverhampton/Dudley accent.
