Ageia offers physics support for Cell Playstation 3 chip

It has support for rigid collisions
Tue Mar 21 2006, 18:15
CALIFORNIAN FIRM AGEIA said its latest software development kit (SDK) supports physics stuff across a number of different platforms.

It said it had released the Physx SDKversion 2.4, which gives effects for nextgen gaming machines and using the Physx accelerator add in board which Asus and BFG are making.

The SDK will allow developers to work on both PCs and future game consoles. It said "collisions and interactions between multiple objects or fluids" will cause real life reactions on a "massive scale".

Ageia supports Softimage, Autodesk and Collada Physics import and export. Developers can get versions for both PCs and the Microsoft Xbox 360 from Ageia's web site.

The firm also said it is working to optimise performance on the Cell chip - that's the one that's gonna be used in the Sony Playstation 3, when that arrives. µ
